What to wear
If you're in a snowy location, try adding some bold and vibrant colors like burgundy, eggplant, navy, or emerald green to your outfit. These colors will stand out against the white backdrop. Alternatively, if you prefer a more natural look, you can opt for neutral colors with cool undertones, such as blues and grays, which will also look great against a wintery landscape.
Make sure you and your pet stay warm! Really bundle up and play up the winter factor. We love seeing fur-lined boots, jackets or hats, oversized chunky scarves, and adorable gloves. Layers, layers, layers. Double up on those socks and throw on some long johns if you must! The key is to make sure you and your pet stay happy and warm.
Be prepared to reschedule
Keep an eye on the weather forecast and be prepared to reschedule due to inclement weather. We like to reserve a "rain day" ahead of time, just in case.
Keep your session short and sweet
Typically, we like to keep our sessions under 2 hours during colder months. In most cases, we do not recommend having a session with your pet when it is under 50 degrees F. Remember to always consider windchill, too.
Bring a blanket
It's a cute way to add variety to the images and helps you stay warm and dry.
Turn it into a mini vaca
If you will be taking a drive to a location away from home, why not turn it into a relaxing getaway? Book a cozy hotel room or cabin for the night before your shoot or the entire weekend for even more fun!
And, most importantly...
Make it a bonding experience with your family. Stay safe, relax, and have fun creating beautiful memories.
