I often get asked: "Where should we have our pet's photo session?"
That's a great question! I have many favorite spots for pet photo sessions in Orange County and Riverside for you to choose from. I'm also open to trying a place that is special or meaningful to you.
Here are a few tips to help you pick the best location for your pet's photo session.
- It's important to choose a location that is pet-friendly and where your pet will feel at ease. Consider a place where you and your pet often spend time together, such as a neighborhood park where you play fetch or the comfort of your own home. Including your pet's favorite hangout in the photo session can make the final images more memorable and tell their unique story.
- Consider how you'll display your images. For example, if you plan to display your portraits on the wall in your home that's full of natural decor and warm colors, then a park-like setting with earthy tones would match your color scheme perfectly.
- Consider the season your session is scheduled for. For example, if it is warm on your session date, going to the beach and letting your pups play in the ocean might be a good choice.
- Consider traffic. SoCal is gorgeous, but sometimes the traffic is awful. Choose a location that will be easy for you to get to at our scheduled session time. We usually start at sunrise or a couple of hours before sunset for outdoor shoots.
- Check event calendars for the location to avoid holding your session when a festival or other type of event is scheduled. The less crowded, the less distracted your pet will be and the fewer obstacles we will have. This will significantly improve our opportunity for a pleasant and successful photo session.
- Typically cats are best photographed in their environment, at home.
Cats should be leash trained, confident, comfortable, and accustomed to being outdoors for us to photograph them anywhere outside of their home. Please know your cat's personality and what will be best for them.
- Outdoor locations work great for most dogs. But if your dog tends to get highly anxious or distracted in public places, your home, neighborhood, or a quiet park may be the best choice.
- At-home sessions can offer several options for different images, such as in the backyard, in the front yard, on the couch, in the kitchen, where they like to sleep, in the car, or around the neighborhood. Many clients prefer their home because of the intimate and personal feel it provides. You don't need to live in a mansion or have a huge, perfectly landscaped backyard for us to create beautiful images of your pet. Sure, you'll want to tidy up the areas we will be shooting in. But either way, I will be able to work with just about any environment your home provides as long as there is enough natural light. To ensure this, we can schedule a time for me to visit your home beforehand.
- Puppies and kittens should be finished with all vaccinations before taking them to a public location. A session at home is the best option for puppies and kittens under 16 weeks old.
- Please be aware that certain locations may require permits and fees for photography sessions on the property.; some are more strict than others about permits.
